Sorry about the long wait on this one. School has been taking up a lot of my time. This chapter is called "The Next Assignment". I hope you enjoy it.

The Next Assignment[]

As I was returning home after visiting Jason, I heard a courier shouting my last name. I turned toward him, and he gave me a letter. I looked at the envelope, and saw that it was from Djura. I opened it, and saw that it was offering me another job.

Nathan Sakharine,

I am very satisfied with how you performed on our last assignment together. I received a request for help from a fishing village about 30 miles from Yharnam. I have other things to take care of, so my son Mark will take care of it. If you would like to be a part of it, then meet Mark at noon tomorrow at the same place where we first met. I have also sent letters to Derrick and your friend Jason.

Thanks,
Djura

I knew that I wanted to be a part of this assignment. I went home, fed my new pet, and went on with my very simple daily routine, which involved a whole lot of nothing.

When it was time for me to go to bed, I heard my beast patient making an odd noise, so I went into the basement to investigate. I turned out that she was trying to chew her way through the bars of her cell. There was no way that I was going to allow that kind of behavior, so I chained her to the wall, and told her that she needed to behave herself, or there were going to be consequences. After that interruption, I stripped down to nothing but my pants, and went to bed, sleeping on the covers, and not under them.

I woke up at my usual time, 5 A.M., then ate breakfast, which was just a few pieces of toast. About an hour after I got up, I got dressed, gave my pet breakfast, gathered all of my weapons, including Alfred’s sword, which I needed to get a scabbard for, then left at 7 A.M. like I always do. I went to Jason’s house, knocked on the door, and answered. He invited me inside, and we both sat down at his dining table.

“Did you get a letter from Djura yesterday?” I asked him.

“Yes”, he answered. “Are you going?”

“I am”, I said. “Not much else for me to do. Plus, I should get a nice reward from it.”

“I’m also going”, Jason said. “I could also use a reward. Cynthia said she doesn’t want to risk her life ever again, so she’s definitely not coming.”

“I can understand that”, I responded. “I wish that I could live a peaceful life, but I’ve made some very questionable decisions in the past.”

“Is one of those decisions the reason you wear a mask?” he asked.

“Yes”, I answered.

“Cynthia told me that you said that something is wrong with your face. Is it really that bad?” he asked.

“She told you about that?” I asked.

“She told me that you were extremely talkative”, he said.

“Well”, I said. “On this next assignment, I’m going to take things more seriously. That last experience scared me straight.”

“That’s good”, he said.

We waited until about 11 A.M., then we left to head to Old Yharnam, and met Mark where we had first met Djura. We saw that Mark was already there.

“Hello there”, he said. “Y’all are early. How are you two doing?”

“I’m good”, Jason responded.

“I’m also doing pretty good”, I said. “How are you, Mark?”

“I’m doing just dandy”, he said excitedly. “Now we just wait for Derrick, and we can head off.”

“Are you sure he’s coming?” Jason asked.

“Yes”, Mark said. “When I was out yesterday, I ran into him, and he told me that he was coming.”

We waited for over an hour, and it wasn’t until almost 1 P.M. that Derrick arrived, drenched in sweat, and panting like a dog.

“Sorry I’m late!” he yelled. “I woke up later than I usually do.”

“It’s fine”, Mark said. “Well, now that we’re all here, we can head out now. Let’s go!”
