Now is time for chapter 6 of this story. This is probably the longest chapter that I've ever written. This one is called "The Journey Ends". I hope you enjoy it.

The Journey Ends[]

After Ian’s death, we set out to avenge him. We began heading down the same path that the creature went down, and were moving quickly, since we wanted to kill it, and get out of here. Djura was in the lead, with Cynthia not far behind him, but my fat self was a decent distance behind them. Suddenly, we ran into Alfred, Yurie, and Mark, who seemed surprised to see us.

“Well”, Alfred said. “I wasn’t expecting to run into you guys. Where’s the other guy?”

“Dead”, Djura responded. “We’re going after the thing that did it. Will you three join us?”

“Of course”, Alfred responded. “You know me. I love killing things.”

“You know me, dad”, Mark said. “I’ll always have your back.”

“I know you will, Mark”, Djura said to his son.

“Have you guys seen anything living since you’ve been here?” I asked.

“Nothing”, Mark said. “Not a single living thing. We did come across a big, locked door that was definitely holding something valuable.”

“Well”, Djura said. “How about we go check that out after we kill this thing?”

“Absolutely”, Mark replied.

“Let’s do it”, Alfred said affirmatively.

“Let’s go”, Djura ordered. As we continued on, I began worrying about the other three, especially since I didn’t want Jason, my best friend, meeting a similar fate to Ian.

“Have any of y’all seen Jason, Vince, and Derrick?” I asked.

“We actually did”, Alfred told me. “It was about 20 minutes ago. We considered merging our groups, but we decided to stay split up. I wouldn’t be surprised if we ran into them again soon.”

We continued on in silence for a few minutes, passing by locations that looked mostly identical to the ones that we had already seen. Then, we heard the creature again. We began moving stealthily, so that we could potentially surprise it.

As we continued walking, Alfred and I decided to go a different way than the rest of the group. Suddenly, as I was walking, Alfred pushed me back. “Stop”, he said. He then pointed at a hole that I nearly stepped into. We both crouched down next to it. “Don’t wanna go falling down that, do we?”

“No we do not”, I responded. “It looks like a long fall down. Would you mind handing me one of those rocks?” He did, and I dropped it in the hole, and heard it splash into water a few seconds after I dropped it. “There’s a river or a stream down there.”

Then, we both heard growling nearby, then we saw the creature crawling on the ceiling. As it leaped toward us, I quickly took out one of my pistols, and shot it in the face, causing it to miss us, and it almost fell into the hole in the ground, but was able to grab onto the ledge between it and us. As I reloaded my pistol, Alfred took out his sword, and went to finish the creature off. As he went to stab it, it jumped up and bit his arm, causing him to drop his sword. They both fell down the hole, but Alfred was able to grab the ledge with his left hand. I dropped the pistol that I had fired, pulled out my loaded one, and got to a spot where I could see the creature’s head.

“Sakharine, shoot it!” Alfred screamed. I aimed at its head, and shot it. It let go of Alfred’s arm, and howled as it fell into the water below. “You got it!” Alfred said.

I reached down to help Alfred up, but the brick that he was holding onto came loose, and fell. I grabbed Alfred’s hand, and tried to pull him up.

“Sakharine”, Alfred said. “Lift me up.”

“I’m trying”, I responded. “You’re too heavy.”

“You can do it”, he said. “I believe in you.” I then felt his gauntlet slip.

“Alfred, your glove is slipping”, I said, before trying to grab his wrist with my left hand. Suddenly, his glove came loose, causing Alfred to fall.

“NATHAN!” he screamed as he fell into the water below. I stood up, shocked by what had just happened. I threw his gauntlet aside, grabbed the pistol that I had dropped, then traded the old cleaver Djura had given me for Alfred’s sword, since he wasn’t going to need it any time soon.

I continued on by myself, and not long after, I was greeted by Djura and the rest of the crew, who I saw had joined back up with Jason, Derrick, and Vince.

“We heard two shots”, Djura said. “What happened?”

“The creature attacked me and Alfred”, I replied. “It’s dead. Or at least not a threat to us anymore.”

“Where’s Alfred?” Mark asked.

I was still hyperventilating. “It got his arm. Both him and the beast fell down a hole into a body of water below.”

“Another loss”, Djura said to himself. “Dammit. Let’s keep moving. There should be nothing else between us and treasure, now that the thing that has killed all of the beasts here is dead. From here on out, we stick together. Let’s move.”

As we continued to find what we were looking for, we all remained mostly silent. At least until we found a big, ornately decorated door that seemed to be made of gold.

“This is what we came here for”, Djura announced. “There should be treasure inside. Enough for all of us to have a decent share. Now, does anyone know how to pick a lock? That’s what I hired Ian to do, but he’s not with us anymore.”

“I know how”, I said before digging a lockpick out of my satchel, then going to work.

“You know how to pick a lock?” Jason asked me.

“Yes”, I answered. “It’s a long story, but I had to do it a lot in my teenage years.” I got the lock open, but the door was so old that it decided that it didn’t want to open. I then kicked it in, which made a very loud noise. “And there we go.”

“I guess we didn’t need Ian after all”, Djura said, before he and everyone else entered the room. It was a big room, full of golden treasure. It was unlike anything I had ever seen.

While everyone else was busy plundering the treasure, I noticed something inside a giant metal grate. I went to remove the grate, but it was too heavy for me.

“I’ll help you with that, Sakharine”, Vince said. He reached his hand into the grate, grabbed the suspicious object, which made a clicking noise, then detonated, killing Vince, blowing a giant hole in the wall, and setting a good portion of my coat on fire. I ripped my coat off, leaving nothing on my torso except the black sleeveless shirt I was wearing underneath, and stepped on it repeatedly to put the fire out.

“Holy fuck!” I yelled. Everyone rushed over to Vince’s corpse. “That was my fault.”

“Don’t blame yourself, Sakharine”, Derrick said. “We need to take his body back.”

“I’ll help you with that”, I offered.

“Thank you”, Derrick replied.

I picked up Vince’s body, and Derrick and I began heading back to where we came in. It wasn’t until about half-way there that Derrick asked me a pretty random question. “What’s up with all those tattoos on your arms?”

“I’m going to be completely honest”, I said. “I’ve spent some time behind bars.”

“For what?” he asked.

“I’ve been to prison quite a few times, for quite a few different things, like assault, theft, trespassing, and a few other things”, I responded.

“Sounds like you’re quite the trouble maker”, he said. “Vince and I have caused some trouble in the past as well.”

“I have made some questionable decisions in the past”, I said. “One of the worst ones is the reason I had to come here.”

“Well”, Derrick said. “I bet it was a big mistake.”

“It was”, I said. We then made it back to the entrance, where we waited for everyone else to get back. A little while later, everyone else made it back, and Djura split the loot evenly between everyone, which was at least $25,000 for everyone. Everyone else left first, but I had to take a bathroom break, so I went next to a large coffin leaning against a wall, and took a piss. After that, as I was leaving, a small, female beast leaped out of one of the coffins, and tried to attack me. I was able to restrain her easily, and, instead of killing the beast, I decided to keep her for myself as a pet. I took out a few pieces of rope, tied its hands and feet together, and brought it back to my hideout.
