Sorry for the 3 week wait on this one. This chapter is called "An Enemy Awaits", which I think is one of my better chapter titles. I hope you like it.
An Enemy Awaits[]
We had arrived at the Loran Chalice, and it was unlike anything any of us had ever seen. It was absolutely massive. I saw a total of 17 different paths away from the room we had first arrived in. The entire place was made of bricks, it was two stories with a few ladder leading up to the second level, and looked as if no one had been there in ages, since there were cobwebs and dust everywhere. There was also a gate on the wall leading to a large tunnel on the wall opposite of where we came in. All of us were impressed by it except Djura and Mark, who acted like it was nothing they hadn’t seen before.
“Alright, everyone”, Djura said. “We made it. Now, we need to know what we’re dealing with, so I want us to explore this place before we do anything. So let’s split up. Jason, Derrick, Vince, I want you to go up that later over there, and explore the second floor. Alfred, Yurie, Mark, I want y’all to go through that gate, and see what’s there. Sakharine, Cynthia, Ian, you’re with me. Move out.”
We began heading down one of the many tunnels, and it seemed like no one had been down there in a long time, except for the fact that there was fresh blood on the floor. The path we went down was very long, and I was beginning to think that it was never going to end. Suddenly, Djura, who was in the lead, stopped moving, raised his left hand up, and said “stop”. He then crouched down, and examined a bloody footprint. “There were no footprints leading up to this one. Where did it come from?” he said.
Suddenly, I felt something dripping on my shoulder, and looked up to see more bloody footprints on the ceiling. “Something was moving on the ceiling. What are we dealing with?” I asked Djura.
“I don’t know, Sakharine, but it’s definitely a threat. And it’s not too far ahead of us”, Djura responded. “Let’s keep moving, and try to find whatever was here.”
We kept moving, and I tried to start up some banter with my three comrades. “So, uh... how are things?” I casually asked.
“Sakharine, now’s not the best time”, Djura said in a serious tone.
“I know”, I said. “Just trying to lighten the mood a bit.”
“I agree with the boss, bitch”, Ian said, “this is some scary shit that’s going on.” I had to resist laughing at his statement.
“Yeah”, Cynthia said, “let’s focus on the more serious issue at hand. Then we can have a friendly conversation.”
“I’m sorry, then”, I replied in a dejected tone. “What do you think this thing is?” I asked.
“I don’t know”, Djura responded. “I’ve seen quite a few beasts in my time, but never one that can climb on walls and ceilings.”
“There’s four of us”, Cynthia began to say. “We can take it.”
“No offense, Cynthia, but can you even fight? You don’t even have a weapon”, I stated. I started to turn around, but she kicked me in the side of my left knee, jumped into the air, wrapped her legs around my neck, and pulled me to the ground.
“Does that answer your question?” she asked in a sassy tone.
“Yeah”, I said. I stood up, and was very impressed.
“Alright”, Djura said impatiently. “Let’s keep moving. This beast isn’t going to hunt itself.”
