Time for chapter 3. I'm going to try to pick up the pace on writing this story. This chapter is called "The Journey". I hope you enjoy it.
The Journey[]
As everyone prepared for the journey that lay ahead, I needed to ask Djura something.
“How long is the journey gonna be?” I asked him.
“It should be about a day or two at most. Why?” he answered.
“Just curious,” I responded.
“Very well,” he replied. “Everyone! Time to move out!”
Our group of ten all proceeded outside of the western walls of Yharnam, where Djura had prepared a horse for everyone. Mine was solid black. Everyone mounted their horses, and we rode off.
The first day of the journey was relatively uneventful. It just consisted of riding on horseback, occasionally seeing birds and other wildlife. I almost fell asleep several times. By the end of it, my legs were starting to hurt.
Once nighttime was approaching, we decided to stop, and rest in a cave for the night. We started a fire, set up our sleeping bags, got comfortable, and engaged in some lighthearted banter.
“So,” I started to say. “Anyone have any stories to tell?” I asked.
“Well,” Derrick said. “Vince and I once had a substitute teacher that had a hook and pegleg when we were young lads.”
“It’s true,” Vince said. “I thought he was a pirate at first. It was very odd.”
“Interesting,” I responded. “Anyone else?”
“One time, I came home and found that a bunch of bandits had overrun the place,” Alfred said. “You want to know what happened next?” he asked.
“What?” I asked.
“I slaughtered all of them. There were eight of them, and now they’re all dead,” he responded, which disturbed everyone.
Mark then began to speak. “Once, when my father and I were hiking in the woods when I was younger, we came across a terrifying beast. It was big, scary, and had a lot of teeth. We didn’t know how to deal with the situation, so my father just took out a pistol, and shot it in the head. And that was that.”
“That seems a bit anticlimactic,” I said. “Anyone else have something to say?” I asked.
“I do, bitch,” Ian said, which made everyone laugh. “I once was trying to sneak into a house to rob it, but when I got in, it was swarming with guards, so I was arrested very quickly. That’s what I was in prison for. Life is a bitch.”
No one else had any stories to tell, so we all went to sleep. When it was morning, we all got ready to head out again, and continued our journey. It lasted 8 hours. When we got there, Djura told us all to dismount, and we did.
“We’ve made it,” he said. It was a small altar out in the middle of nowhere, with an odd looking chalice on it. Djura walked up to it, pulled a knife out, cut his hand, and let his blood drip into the chalice while silently chanting something incomprehensible. Suddenly, a portal opened. Djura proceeded to wrap his hand in a bandage, and turned towards everyone.
“Everyone, step into the portal after me,” he said. He went first, followed by Mark, Derrick, Vince, Alfred, Yurie, Ian, Martinez, Cynthia, and me. What we saw inside was unlike anything I’ve seen before.
