This is the last chapter in The Betrayal: Act I. This one is called "The Confrontation". I hope you like it.
The Confrontation[]
I climbed out of the hole that Djura had kicked me into, and began heading towards where I knew that he was going: Old Yharnam. I decided to move through alleyways, since I was less likely to be seen.
When I was about halfway to Old Yharnam, I encountered Jason, who seemed surprised to see me. I kept my head down so that he wouldn’t see the damage done to my mask.
“Sakharine, you’re alive?!” he asked.
“You thought I was dead?” I asked in return.
“I ran into Djura, and he told me he had killed you”, he said.
“I got lucky”, I said.
“You could say tha...” he said before pausing, and squinting his eyes. “Would you mind lifting your head up?”
I hesitated for a second, then did what he asked, revealing the damage done to my mask.
“Nathan, what happened?” he asked.
“What do you think happened?” I asked.
“Djura”, he said quietly.
“I’m going to Old Yharnam to deal with him”, I said.
“I’ll go with you”, he said.
“No”, I said. “I have to do this alone.”
“Why?” he asked.
“Because he has nothing against you”, I answered. “This is between me and Djura, and it should stay that way.”
“I understand”, he said. “Good luck.”
“Thanks, Jason”, I said. “If I die, give my regards to Cynthia.”
“Why?” he asked defensively. “Is something going on between you and her?”
“Nothing at all”, I said before beginning to walk away.
“What did she say to you before you got attacked?” he asked.
“Why don’t you ask her?” I asked in return.
“Fine, jackass”, he said before he started laughing. I couldn’t resist laughing as well. “Don’t die, Sakharine. I don’t wanna have to find a new best friend.”
“You won’t have to”, I assured him. “I’m gonna go now. Farewell, Jason.”
“Adios”, he said.
When I made it to Old Yharnam, I saw Djura sitting on top of a tower. I couldn’t properly see his face from the distance between us, but he appeared to be asleep. I was able to successfully sneak up to the tower, and he never noticed me. I slowly climbed up, and tried to sneak up behind him. He woke up, yawned loudly, stood up, and looked toward where I had entered Old Yharnam, with his back to me.
“There’s something about sleeping outside that is so nice”, he said to himself. “I can’t explain it.”
“Explain it to me, Djura”, I said as I drew one of my pistols and pointed it at him. He quickly turned around toward me.
“Well, damn”, he said. “I was right. You are hard to kill. How in the living hell did you survive?”
“I had a blood vial”, I said. “I stole it from the hospital when I went to have my leg fixed.”
“Good play, Sakharine”, he said. “I assume you’re here to kill me. Am I right?”
“You are not incorrect”, I said.
“Why did you say it like that?” he asked.
“No reason”, I answered.
“Anyway”, he said. “Enough talk. Let’s get this over with. You want a fight, so I’ll give you a fight.”
“I’m sorry about Mark”, I said.
“You know, if you hadn’t had left the necklace on his counter, I never would have known that it was you who killed him”, he said. I then began reaching for my sword. “Wait.”
“What is it?” I asked him.
“Let’s fight the old fashioned way”, he said. “No weapons, no mask.”
“I accept that”, I said before dropping the pistol I had in my right hand. I then took out my other pistol and Alfred’s sword, and dropped them both. After that, I took off my mask, and set it down on the ground. “Ready?”
“Ready”, he said.
We charged at each other, and I landed the first blows by punching him in the face, then kicking him in the crotch. He fell down, and I got on top of him. I tried to punch him more, but he headbutted me, and I staggered backwards. I got up, and kicked me in the left knee. I grabbed Djura, and pushed him several feet back. I was able to overpower him, and threw him over the edge. I held him up, preventing him from falling. His life was completely in my hands.
“I guess this is the end for me”, Djura said.
“I guess it is”, I said. He remained perfectly calm.
“Before I die, can you tell me something?” he asked.
“Of course”, I said.
“Why did you kill my son?” he asked.
“Because he pulled a knife on me”, I answered.
“I see”, he said. “Just drop me already.” I began to have second thoughts. I started lifting Djura back up. “What are you doing?”
“Saving you”, I said. Before I could lift him, very far, he pulled out a tiny dagger and stabbed me in the arm, causing me to lose my grip. He fell down, and was impaled on a metal spike. “Holy shit!” I exclaimed.
I climbed down from the tower, and as I was about to leave Old Yharnam, Jason came out from a hiding spot. “I saw it all, Sakharine.”
“Did you follow me here?” I asked.
“Yes, I did”, he said.
“I’m going to go into hiding now”, I said. “I’m not sure the city guards will think too highly of this.”
“I think that’ll be best”, Jason said. “I wouldn’t recommend returning to Yharnam for a few days. Or if you do, don’t wear your mask.”
“I was thinking the same thing”, I said. “I’ll wait for the heat to die down.”
“How long do you think that’ll take”, he asked.
“I’ll come back in 10 days”, I answered. “In 10 days, meet me at our favorite spot at the tavern. I’ll leave early so that I get there first. I won’t be wearing my mask. You’ll get to see what I look like.”
“I mean, with your mask smashed to shit like that, I can kind of see what you look like”, he said.
“That’s true”, I said. “I’m going to go now.”
“Be safe”, he said. “And don’t get caught.”
I began walking toward my hideout. A few minutes later, I heard a bell ring. I took off running, never slowing down until I was out of the city. As I made my way out of the city, I saw several city guards heading in the direction that I was running from. They had found Djura’s body.
End[]
Thanks for reading The Betrayal: Act I. This story took longer to finish than I wanted, but I still love it. I think this is definitely better than Wrath of the Bloody Crow. It's good to be back writing again. In a few days, I'm going to publish a quiz about this story, and another Lancer's Bloodborne Academy will be published next week. After that, I'm going to start The Betrayal: Act II. Have a good day.
