To be honest, I didn't think that I was going to be making two fanficitons, yet here I am with my twenty second. This one is called The Betrayal: Act II, which, as you can tell by the title, is the sequel to The Betrayal: Act I. This chapter is called "Unmasked", since Nathan spends about 90% of this story without his mask on. I think it's also worth noting that, aside from the very last chapter, this entire story takes place in less than 24 hours. I hope you like it.
Like I did with Antal in Wrath of the Bloody Crow, I'm going to be taking a character from the game, give them a buff to make them stronger, and make them the main antagonist of this story. In fact, it's a character that appeared in The Betrayal: Act I.
Unmasked[]
It had been 10 days since I killed Mark and Djura. Jason and I were going to meet at our favorite tavern, and discuss what I should do next.
I got up at my usual time, 5 A.M., but instead of going through my usual morning routine, I immediately dressed myself. Instead of my usual outfit, I put on something that I had never worn before. I wore my usual black sleeveless shirt and black pants, but instead of my leather trench coat, I put on a soft, hooded one. And instead of my mismatched gloves, I put on matching, black gloves with the fingertips cut off. And finally, I put on black leather boots that my father had owned. Under my coat, I put on my belt with my gun holsters, as well as my satchel, and I attached a knife sheath to my belt that I had never used before, since I didn’t want to carry Alfred’s sword with me. After getting dressed, I picked up my mask, and was about to put it on out of instinct, but I stopped myself, and put it in my satchel instead. I then fed my beast pet, and waited for a little while.
I left my hideout at 6:30, half an hour earlier than I usually do, and it felt odd, since I was so used to it being brighter outside. Aside from that though, it was just like my usual 40 minute walks to Yharnam.
When I finally got to Yharnam, barely anyone was out and about. I only saw maybe 15 people while on my way to the tavern. On my way there, I noticed a wanted poster that had a drawing of me on it. It just showed my mask and hood, and only said my last name, Sakharine, and not my first name, Nathan. It said that I was wanted for murder, and that there was a 1,000 gold reward for my capture. I took the wanted poster, and put it in my satchel.
The tavern opened at 7 A.M., so I went inside, and saw that no one was there except the bartender. I sat down at my usual spot, and waited for Jason to arrive. After sitting down, I quickly fell asleep.
I was woken up by Jason slamming his fist on the table as he sat down. “Good morning, sleepy head”, he said.
“Hello, Jason”, I responded. “It’s been a while.”
“It has. I can see that you still want to hide your face”, he said since I had my hood covering most of my face.
“Yes, I do”, I responded.
“Why don’t you just take off the damn hood?” he asked. “You don’t look inconspicuous.”
I sighed, then took off my hood, showing my face to Jason for the first time. He didn’t even seem surprised, despite the fact that I had an eyepatch covering my left eye, and most of my left cheek, left temple, and the area around my left eye was covered in burns.
“You don’t look that out of the ordinary”, he said.
“Seriously?” I asked. “Look at my face. It’s messed up.”
“I see burn victims all the time”, Jason said. “And I have encountered pirates before.”
“I used to be part of a pirate gang”, I said.
“Is that why you have prison tattoos?” he asked.
“Yes”, I answered. “But, to be honest, I got them mainly because I liked how they looked. Not necessarily because I thought that I had earned them."
“You could get your assed kicked for something like that, you know?” he asked.
“Yes”, I answered. “I was a bit of a poser as a teenager.”
“Well”, he said. “If I knew you when you were a teenager, I probably would have hated you.”
“Probably, yeah”, I laughed. “How have you been, Jason?”
“I’ve been fine”, he said. “My last 10 days have been largely uneventful. Aside from the fact that I was worried about you.”
“That’s good, man”, I responded. “I’ve barely eaten in the past 10 days. I don’t know why.”
“You do look smaller”, he said. “But your arms look bigger.”
“I’ve also been exercising, trying to build more muscle”, I said. “I think it’s been going well.”
“Can I ask you a personal question?” he asked.
“Sure, man”, I answered. “What is it?”
“What was the stupidest thing you ever did when you were younger?” he asked.
“Damn”, I said. “There’s a lot.” I thought. “I’d say there are two big ones. Both of which involve girls.”
“Does one of them involve the mortician’s daughter?” he asked in a sly tone.
“You know me well, Jason”, I said before letting out a little laugh.
“What’s the other one?” he asked.
“Well”, I said. “I was 18, and, after my attempt at a life of crime had fallen through, mainly because everyone else in the gang that I had joined was sent to the guillotine, I decided to be a butcher, and sell meat. I don’t mean to brag, but I thought that I was pretty good at it. My dad had a friend who was pretty much my supplier, and helped me get started. People didn’t think too highly of me because, at this point, I had yet to make my mask, and was always covered in animal blood, so people just saw a burned man covered in blood. Now, to the point of this story. There was this girl, who appeared to be about my age. Gorgeous girl. Black hair, blue eyes, large… assets. She liked to come over and heckle me, though that only started after I made a sexual joke aimed at her. She would call me gross, and threaten to have the guards take me away for being gross, which I would remind her isn’t a crime. No matter how many times I would tell her that looking at the blood is important because that determines the quality of the meat would make her stop bothering me. One day, she came by, as usual, and she was wearing a pretty revealing white shirt. She started heckling me, and I asked her to come closer to me. She did, and when she was a few steps away from me, I picked up a piece of bloody beef and threw it in her face, and she was covered in blood. The look on her face. Everyone in the area looked at me afterwards, and they were horrified. I didn’t feel too bad about it until she started crying, at which point I felt slightly remorseful. She then started cursing at me, and then she left. A few minutes later, two guards showed up, and asked me what I did to her. I explained what had happened, and asked me to come with them. I did, and they brought me to that girl’s house, and her father demanded that I apologize her or he would beat the fuck out of me. I refused, and said that she got exactly what she deserved for the way she had treated me. I stormed out, and returned to my shop. Not long after, those same guards told me that I was under arrest. I submitted, and was sentenced to a month in jail. I was informed that my shop was being seized, and that I would have to find another occupation. A few months later, I saw that girl again, and she seemed horrified of me. I apologized to her, and she forgave me.”
Jason looked very shocked. “What the hell is the matter with you, Sakharine?”
“Jason, please, just call me Nathan”, I said before reaching into my satchel, taking out the wanted poster, and putting it on the table. “You don’t want me to get caught, do you?”
“No”, he responded. “I do not.” He took a good look at the wanted poster. “This is serious.”
“It is”, I said. “I think the best course of action is to not wear my mask anymore.”
“That seems like a good idea”, he said. I then reached into my satchel again.
“I want you to hold onto this for me”, I said before handing him my mask under the table.
“Why?” he asked.
“So I’m not tempted to put it on”, I answered. “I think we should go our separate ways now.”
“I think so too”, Jason said.
I took out a piece of paper, and gave it to Jason. “This will tell you how to find my hideout. Meet me there tonight at midnight. There, we can come up with a plan.”
“I’ll be there”, he said. “See you, man.”
“I’ll see you then, my friend”, I said before leaving the tavern.
End[]
Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it. Tell me what you think in the comments. Have a good day.
Also, since Nathan spends the majority of this story without his mask on, at the end, I'm going to reveal what he looks like, and also what he sounds like.
