Time for chapter 8. This is a longer one. This one is called "The Plan". I hope you like it.
The Plan[]
Gideon, Logan, Brandon, Deacon, and Sever arrived at Arminius’ Silver Palace in Ancrya. It was a large, white, three story building decorated with several red banners and flowers. It also appeared to have a smaller, separate building attached to it on the right side.
The five men entered the building. It was similarly decorated on the inside, and was filled to the brim with attractive women wearing revealing outfits.
“Logan”, Brandon said. “Cover your eyes.”
“Shut up, Brandon”, Logan said.
Suddenly the five of them were approached by an attractive, young, red-headed woman, who appeared to be the head mistress of the establishment.
“Well”, she said. “It’s not very often that I get five handsomes in my establishment all at the same time. How can I help you gentlemen?”
“We’re looking for someone”, Gideon said. “We were wondering if you could help us.”
“I’m sure I could”, she said. “But I expect a little something in return. I’m sure you can guess what I mean.”
“I have an idea”, Logan said. “Why don’t you pick the one of us you find the most handsome?”
“Good idea”, she said before starting to think for a minute. She pointed at Brandon. “I choose you.”
“Sweet”, Brandon said with a smile on his face.
“We’ll be back in a few minutes”, the woman said as she led Brandon up the stairs. The other four sat down in one of the corners of the building.
“How did you find out about this place, Logan?” Sever asked.
“In my many years of research on Harold Jenkins, I learned that the original headmistress of this place was his mistress”, Logan said. “According to what I’ve read, he was quite the womanizer.”
“He sounds like an interesting individual”, Sever said.
“Sever, can I ask you something?” Gideon asked.
“Sure”, Sever said.
“Why did you join us?” Gideon asked. “We know basically nothing about you.”
“I want to see peace brought to this world”, Sever said. “The Silent Fang are corrupt, and I want to see them brought to justice.”
“I can understand that”, Gideon said.
Not long after that conversation, Brandon returned with the dumbest smile on his face. He was obviously satisfied.
“Well?” Gideon asked. Brandon’s face suddenly got serious.
“She said that a Silent Fang officer named Wooten Reyes comes to visit her every Tuesday at 2 P.M.”, Brandon said.
“We’re in luck”, Deacon said. “That’s in two hours.”
“Let’s get ready”, Gideon said. “Sever and I will stay here. I want you three across the street, out of sight. We’ll capture him when he comes out.”
“Why not snatch him before he comes in?” Deacon asked.
“Because I’d rather not interrupt a man’s fun”, Gideon said. “Get into position.”
Everyone took their positions, and waited. After two hours went by, Logan, Brandon, and Deacon saw Reyes enter the building. He didn’t see Gideon and Sever inside, and he went about his business. The three men outside took up positions by the door, ready to capture him as he came out. They waited for twenty minutes, and held him at gunpoint as he exited. Gideon and Sever prevented him from going back inside.
“Well”, Reyes said. “This was unexpected.”
“Come with us”, Gideon said.
“Very well”, Reyes said.
The Blood Brothers brought their prisoner back to the fort. He was tied up in a secret room in the basement of the headquarters, where Ragnar, Vlad, Gideon, and Logan decided to interrogate him.
“Where is the Silent Fang’s last headquarters in South Bretonnia?” Ragnar asked Reyes.
“I’m not telling you a damn thing”, Reyes said. Ragnar laughed, and turned to Logan.
“Logan”, Ragnar said. “Hit him.” Logan walked up to Reyes, and punched him in the face. “Ready to talk now?” Ragnar asked.
“Never!” Reyes said. Logan hit him three more times, causing Reyes to spit out a tooth. “Stop! I’ll talk.”
“Speak”, Vlad said.
“What do you want to know?” Reyes said.
“Where is your base?” Ragnar asked.
“I can lead you there”, Reyes said.
“You better”, Ragnar said.
“How many men are there?” Gideon asked.
“Forty”, Reyes said.
“That’s it?” Gideon asked.
“You’ve been slaughtering us”, Reyes said. “Untie me, and I’ll lead you to the base.”
“Very well”, Gideon said. He untied Reyes.
“Take a few men, just in case”, Ragnar told Gideon.
“Got it”, Gideon said. He wanted to bring Sever along, but couldn’t find him, so he went on without him.
Gideon, Reyes, Logan, Brandon, Deacon, and 5 other men set off on horseback, with Reyes leading the way. They were heading West. They travelled for about an hour, when Reyes suddenly stopped in the middle of a crossroad that was surrounded by tall grass.
“Why the hell are you stopping?” Gideon asked.
“You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you?” Reyes asked in a sinister tone. Suddenly, Logan’s horse was sniped in the head, killing it. About 10 Silent Fang soldiers came out of the tall grass, and attacked the group. As Logan, Brandon, and Deacon opened fire on the Silent Fang, Gideon took out his crossbow and shot Reyes’ horse. The 10 Silent Fang were defeated, but, while Gideon, Logan, Brandon, and Deacon were alright, the other five Blood Brothers, along with their horses, were killed.
Gideon rushed towards Reyes, grabbed him, dragged him towards a nearby tree, slammed him against it, took out his revolver, and pointed it at Reyes’ face. “You lead us into an ambush!”
“Hold on, now”, Reyes said. “I can still lead you to the base.”
“Where is it?!” Gideon asked angrily.
“Keep following the way we were going”, Reyes said. “Eventually, you’ll run into a river. Turn right before crossing it, into a path that leads into the forest. Keep going straight, and you’ll see it eventually.”
“Thank you”, Gideon said before shooting Reyes in the face, killing him. Gideon walked over to Logan, who was mourning the loss of his horse. “You can ride with me, Logan.” Everyone remounted, and followed Reyes’ directions. True to his word, they eventually saw the base. It was in the middle of a field in the forest. There appeared to be only three buildings, one of which was rather large, and the other two small, all three of which appeared to be made of wood. There was a lake between the group and the base, with a wooden dock on the far side, with two guards positioned on it. There were numerous watch towers, and a lot of very tall grass.
“How are we going to do this?” Logan asked.
“I have no idea”, Gideon said.
“We have enough men back at base to deal with this”, Brandon said.
“Let’s go back to base, and see what Ragnar thinks we should do”, Gideon said.
The four of them returned to base, and told Ragnar and Vlad what the situation was. They both seemed concerned.
“This could be troublesome”, Ragnar said. “We have the numbers, but the way you describe the base sounds like it could prove troublesome to attack. Do you have any ideas, Vlad?”
“I have one”, Vlad said. He whispered something in his father’s ear.
“That sounds like a good plan”, Ragnar said.
“Everyone, follow me”, Vlad said. He led the group to the armory, and opened a secret compartment in one of the walls. It contained two green suits designed to resemble heavy foliage, that covered the entire back of the body. “These are something new that I designed. I call them ghillie suits. They should allow one to blend in with the environment.”
“You want to take a stealth approach?” Gideon asked.
“Yes”, Vlad said. “Deacon, Logan. I want you two to do this. You two are the best shots that we have.”
“We won’t let you down”, Deacon said.
“One of you will need this”, Gideon said as he put his crossbow on a table. “It’s one of the only two we’ve got.”
“Do you mind if I equip it with a scope?” Vlad asked Gideon.
“Not at all”, Gideon said. “There’s a switch near the trigger that can change the fire mode from fully-automatic to semi-automatic.”
“Thank you, Gideon”, Vlad said.
Logan and Deacon equipped their ghillie suits, along with dark green fingerless gloves and masks. They each had a repeater crossbow, which were also camouflaged, with a scope, set to semi-auto fire, along with plenty of spare bolts in drum magazines, and a long bayonet to use as a knife.
“Ready to go, Logan?” Deacon asked.
“Yeah”, Logan said. “Let’s go.”
They went to the fort’s gate, where Vlad was waiting for them with a carriage.
“I’ll drop you off half a mile away from the base”, Vlad said. “I can’t stick around for too long, so you’ll have to find another means of transport.”
“Got it”, Deacon said.
“Let’s go”, Vlad said.
